This tour brings you to two different
suburbs to experience how Singaporeans truly live. First stop is Toa Payoh, one of Singapore’s oldest housing estates. Built more than 30 years ago, this vibrant township offers excellent value for shopping and local foods.
It is also home to the Housing and Development Board (HDB). the government agency that built over 80% of housing for the population. |
Toa Payoh, was transformed by the HDB from a swampy. farming area into Singapore’s first self-contained new town, complete with schools, shopping, housing and factories.
We’ll visit the HDB Gallery for an insight into The history of planning & development of housing in land-scarce Singapore: as well as their plans far the future.
Next sample products of a local bakery, Bread Talk, who transformed the bakery industry with its imaginative ingredients, creative names and innovative presentations |
Learn about the traditional herbal remedies of Hockhua Ginseng Birdnest Trading and and how they balance our body functions to keep us healthy. Then do some shopping of your own or simply sit in the square and people-watch.
The second suburb we’ll visit is Holland Village where expats and locals mix. This organic ‘village’ is renowned for its excellent local and international food. Eclectic shops offering curios, antique furniture. art, carpets, all with a unique Asian touch can be found here.
Stop for tea at the Katong Laksa eatery. A must try for those with a craving for spicy seafood noodles is their ‘Laksa” a dish that’s unique to Singapore. There will be sufficient time left for visiting Holland Road Shopping Centre to shop and hunt for bargains before heading back to your hotel. |
