Day 1 Singapore/Siem Reap/Silk Farm/Artisans D'Angkor/Old Market (D)
Your vacation starts with a pleasant flight from Singapore to Siem Reap. Siem Reap is a small colonial town which is charming and pleasant to roam around, with some fine examples of French colonial architecture.
Upon arrival, you will visit the Angkor Silk Farm which occupies 8 hectares of land in rural Cambodia. Visitors will discover and understand the whole silk production process, from Mulberry growing to silk weaving.
This afternoon, visit Artisans D'Angkor to discover the traditional Khmer techniques used for stone and wood carving, lacquering and gilding. These intricate craft-wares by skilled artisans are inspired by the rich Cambodian heritage. Later on, you will visit the Old Market, which is full of exotic products at bargain price.
Day 2 Siem Reap/Angkor Thom/Angkor Wat (B/L/D)
Today, you will be visiting the South Gate of Angkor Thom. The fortified city of Angkor Thom was built by Angkor's greatest king, Jayavarman VII (1181-1219). At the heart of the Angkor Thom is the renowned Giant faces of Bayon, which is hailed as one of the most recognizable images connect to Khmer art and architecture. Next visit the ancient buildings such as the Terrace of the Elephant, Terrace of the Leper King, Phimeanakas and Baphoun.
Next, proceed to visit Ta Prohm – a temple in its ‘natural state’. Surrounded by jungle, its labyrinth of stone hallways is overgrown with the roots and limbs of the massive Banyan trees which envelope the stones like tentacles.
Afternoon, you will start your tour to the World Heritage – ANGKOR WAT. The temples of Angkor was built when the Khmer civilization was at the height of its development, representing one of humankind's most astonishing and enduring architectural achievements. Angkor Wat, surrounded by a moat with an exterior wall with distinctively rendered Apsara carvings along the wall throughout the temple. The exterior walls of the lower leveled displays the most extraordinary bas-reliefs, depicting stories and characters from Hindu mythology and the historical wars of Suryarvarman II.
In the evening, proceed to watch sunset at Phnom Bakheng.
Day 3 Siem Reap/Phnom Penh (overland - coach)/Royal Palace/Silver Pagoda/Independence Monument/Naga Casino (B/L/D)
After breakfast, proceed to Phnom Penh.
Upon arrival, visit the Royal Palace (proper attire required) and Silver Pagoda. The Royal Palace is the official residence of King Norodom Sihamony and be awed by the majestic buildings with gleaming yellow walls.
Next, you will visit the Independence Monument of Cambodia, followed by Naga Casino to test out your luck. Lastly, you will be driven along the river for a scenic view of the city and its local lifestyle.
Day 4 Phnom Penh/Tuol Sleng Museum/Killing Field of Choeung Ek/Sihanoukville (overland – coach) (B/L)
This morning, you will visit Tuol Sleng Museum, also known as the Museum of Genocidal Crimes. In 1975 Tuol Svay Prey High School was taken over by Pol Pot’s security forces and turned into a prison known as Security Prison 21 (S-21). It was used by the Khmer Rouge as a detention and torture center in the late 1970. Today the building houses exhibits, paintings and photographs of many of the victims. Visitors can see the crude cells built in the classrooms and the torture devices used to extract confessions.
Next, visit the Killing Field of Choeung Ek - a soccer-field-sized area surrounded by farmland, the killing fields contain mass graves, slightly sunken, for perhaps 20,000 Cambodians, many of whom were tortured before being killed. A memorial building stands in the center of the killing fields. Many of the skulls inside were pulled from the mass graves.
After lunch, transfer to Sihanoukville by coach, transfer to a restaurant for dinner and to hotel for check in.
Day 5 Sihanoukville (B)
Sihanoukville is Cambodia premier beach town. Its off-white sand beaches and warm Gulf of Thailand waters combined with a laid back atmosphere provides a great tropical get-away. Sihanoukville is a place to unwind by the beach, enjoy the fresh from-the-ocean seafood, take in a snorkeling or scuba trip, and generally slow-down, lay-back and chill-out.
Day 6 Sihanoukville/Phnom Penh/Singapore (B)
After breakfast, transfer by coach back to Phnom Penh. Upon arrival, transfer to airport for your afternoon flight home. We wish you a pleasant flight and thank you for traveling with New Shan.
